If your local market does not offer good marine plywood, epoxy and fiberglass supplies then the kit may well be the better deal price wise. I built a MC13 from plans and the parts cutting was a very minor amount of the total time. Something like 15 hours out of 100 total. I live in the Pacific NW where wood boat building supplies are easy to get so I did save money over a kit. I think the bigger MC would be a good choice for your goals. If going solo then just add some gear to the other cockpit. Or build 1 MC13 and see if the SO likes it then build either a 2nd 13 or go for the double so you have either to use!
