Just adding a bit to Laszlo's calculations, you're dealing with about 1 1/2 sq. yards of material (3 strips 17' long X 3" wide = 51 lineal feet of 3"......divided by 4 to get it to square feet = roughly 13 sq. feet....... divided by 9 to get to sq. yards = 1 1/2, more or less).

So, you will be adding over 2 pounds, just for the heavier tape. That may not sound like much, but that's basically a 5% increase in the total weight of your boat.

If the cloth you have is woven, like the tape normally used, its going to be quite a handful to wet out with epoxy once you cut it into strips....those glass strands go everywhere.
