I have seen the s & g night heron done so that the panels are similar in color rather than contasting and it looks pretty cool that way. After building the hybrid shearwater I and it seems most people hardly notice the puzzle joints...the deck gets most of the attention and when its in the water none of that really matters anyway. A freind of mine who has built some 15 boats has taken to painting his hulls black with Fusion spray paint available just about anyplace. It really looks great, sets the hybrid deck appart and is so easy to repair the little scratches. Especially if you color the epoxy black underneath first. You wont see any puzzle joint and you wont spend the extra time to varish the hull this way.
