"Don't ever build a kayak to survive a fall off a car top"

I beg to differ with you there. A hull that comes apart after a 6ft fall with no one sitting in it is not going to survive very long in a surf zone. Kayak plus kayaker plus some water in the cockpit weighs maybe 250 pounds. It pearls on a breaking wave and hits the sand...

We build for the intended use and then a bit more. If rock-free flat water is all you do, then save those ounces. I'll stick with my pre-wetting, thank you.
