Re: locking the kayak

I was able to install a couple of steel "eyes" on my Saturn Vue roof rack. I then clamped small loops in the end of a length of plastic coated aircraft cable. With one end permanently looped in one "eye" the length is looped around the kayak just in front of and behind the coaming and a small padlock attaches the other end to the 2nd "eye". The cable at the coaming keeps the kayak from being pulled or pushed from the saddles. Of course this is secondary to the webbing straps that safely hold down the boat.

I'm sure a would-be thief could thwart my system with some effort but it would take some time and tools. Now if I could only wire in the car's panic alarm to the system....
