Glassing deck?

Hi all, doing my homework before building a Ches 16, bought the video, reading everything I can, learning a whole lot from all of you. It is all good.

I am wondering how necessary it is to glass the top of the deck? Do all of you do it? I saw it done on the video but I also saw a webring site build from start to finish where the deck was not glassed.

Not looking for shortcuts before building even begins, so far I see a (potential?) problem with glassing the deck and having a nice, clean, hull to deck joint. I don't see how I would make this perfect line along the length of the boat without overlap (of glass) or a gap or worse (a nasty combination of the two).
