I believe varnish cans to be one of my greatest frustrations. I have tried lots of things to prevent the skinning over but the cans just do not seal that well once opened.

I have started using quart thinner cans I save (or buy new at the paint store) to decant my varnish as soon as I open it. The screw on lid works well every time. And I add a bit of Penetrol to the varnish right away. That seems to help the skinning over too.
