I think a good compromise would be fiberglass tape on the seams forward and aft of the cockpit, but a complete sheathing of 'glass in the cockpit area. That's how the Shearwaters are done. That will make a light but strong hull. The whole exterior, and preferably the whole underside of the deck, is 'glassed.
By the way, there's a Night Heron Hybrid being assembled within view of the ShopCam.
Nick's own Night Heron S&G---sitting in our showroom right now---is entirely 'glassed inside. It's a little heavy, but this is how Nick uses it so the ample structure is well justified:
