It would probably help if you can show a picture of the damage to the Chessy. But... based on your description, I would begin by sanding the area 4-6" around the crack on the inside and outside of the hull. Then I would wet out a fiberglass patch with epoxy on the inside. When this is semi-cured (after about 12 hours), I would fill the crack with silica thickened epoxy and smooth to the surounding surface on the exterior. Then after all the epoxy work is completely cured and sanded, then repaint the area.
