Mike,

I just installed the deck on my Cape Charles last week. The rear deck was done a few days before the front deck went on. Check out the link below from the CLC building tips section on the perfect joint. Once you cut through the rear deck you will need to use the knife to cut the trimmed piece off of the shear clamp so the front deck can glue to the shear clamp.
