Thanks for the compliment, but Ghandi was a great humanitarian who was willing to lay down his life for his principles and the betterment of the world. I'm just an average amateur boatbuilder who likes to type.
I hope things go more smoothly for you now. About your transom -I've been thinking of reinforcing mine by gluing a piece of 3/4 inch thick pine or maple behind it. Not that it isn't plenty strong the way it's designed, but it occurred to me that it might be handy one day to be able to put a screw in the transom - may to attach a rudder, or an eye bolt for attaching a line, etc. I'm still considering it and how much weight it'll add vs. the potential utility, but in your case that idea may work in with repairing your broken one.
