Re: boat choice

Oddly enough, after test-paddling my friend's CH17LT, a strip-built Baidarka and an early PAX20 at a demo in MD a number of years ago, I went with the Baidarka. It had the best combination of speed, stability and cargo room.

However, if I were going with a kit-boat meant more for day-use recreation in mild waters, I'd look hard at the PAX20. While the CLC description states the boat is for more experienced paddlers, I felt totally comfortable in it immediately despite it being only the 3rd kayak I'd ever paddled. Stability was much better than expected for such a narrow boat and good lord was it fast! To this day, I still look at it as probably my next boat.
