Clearly some contamination in the varnish. Stearates in the sandpaper? silicone from latex gloves? Hard to tell. Here is a link showing how to narrow down the contamination source. Love the first one about the silicone blet dressing in the furnace coming in through the ducts, and settling. Never would have thought of that.
Could the recent rain and wetness given fisheyes?
