The Skerry has enough flotation when swamped to be bailed out, but it will take a pretty athletic person to do it. I think if the sea conditions were rough, it would be difficult to self-rescue. It's more stable and has more flotation than a lot of popular sailboats but being cautious about the weather is of primary importance, whether it's small sailboats, rowboats, or kayaks.
I've sailed the Skerry in 20-25 knots more times than I care to count and I find the boat safe and manageable, but I've got a lot of time in smallcraft, and I was careful to have a refuge just to leeward whenever I went sailing in those conditions. (Invariably for photography.)
