George- I have an inflatable PFD that I use for sailing in the central Alabama heat. I'm not a kayak guy, so I don't know if there are PFDs made specially for kayakers. But the one I have definately would allow more freedom for paddling than the conventional foam PFD I used to have. There is an article reviewing various inflatable PFDs in the August issue of Sail magazine. Again, not aimed specifically at paddlers, but good info nonetheless.
