decal, onlay, inlay?

Does anyone have any suggestions for adding decorative bands to the deck? My kayak has a mahogany finish and I would like to add a lighter decorative tribal band or a thin pin stripe around the edge of the deck.

I have wood working skills but inlaying sounds like too much. Although the venier underneath is a lighter color so I could use a router and fill with epoxy?

What about an onlay or even a decal? Where do I purchase them? Megan
