Rick- all good questions! They are questions I've been asking myself, and still do, after a year of having my Passagemaker on the water. I have a small hand-held anemometer and GPS unit, and being a scientific sort of person, I've always wanted to map out speed vs. true wind on different points of sail. Somehow I always just end up enjoying the sailing experience instead.
As for wind speed limits, perhaps Capt. Pollard could post his photo of the downwind run as he sailed home from O fest. The bending main mast is tribute to the sturdiness of the PMD rig. I don't know about absolute limits, but obviously - and this applies to pointing ability as well - fine tuning changes in the rig and the skill of the skipper play a large role in determining both.
