Oar Leathers
Posted by Ron Paro on Jun 21, 2007
...Stitch, or tack? (or both) I am ready to install new oar leathers on my ash oars, and I read the instructions with the CLC leathers kit. Then I saw some references elsewhere that indicated it may be better to wet the leather, trim, and sew it onto the oars while wet to allow the natuaral shrinkage to hold it in place. Any thoughts?
Also, is the 'button' supposed to overlapp itself, or be trimmed so that the ends meet when wrapped around the oar shaft?
