Shearwater Cradles

Posted by Bill Aileo on Jun 16, 2007

I have just about reached the point in construction of my Shearwater Hybrid where I will be removing the deck so that the underside can be sanded and fiberglassed. The instructions call for the creation of rigid cradles from plywood scribed to the curve of the deck. However, sometime ago I built a pair of the CLE design sawhorses that include web slings that conform to the shape of whater is placed on them. I am considering using these to support the deck rather than making the plywood cradles. Would this be a mistake? Do the cradles need to be the rigid plywood?
