I think that these are both great designs, but I am partial to the Jimmy Skiff, since that is hwat I am building. Both boats have a shallow draft, and good stability. The Passagemaker is six inches wider at the beam, so 8'oars are recommended, as compared with 7 1/2' oars for the Jimmy Skiff. If the local creeks are narrow, this could be a consideration. Another consideration may be mast height. If there are overhead obstructions where you plan to sail, then the PMD could be a better choice due to the sliding-gunter mast which can be lowered.
