Ingrid, you're absolutely right. The demo boats at Okoumefest typically get just as wet inside as out and the satin finish survives anyway.

As far as I know, the reason CLC suggests it for interior is not because of lack of durability. It's so the cockpit is glare-free, especially on the sailing & rowing boats. A bright shiny finish would blind you on a southern California day.

Worst that could happen? You have to refinish every couple of years. Which if you use the boat is something you need to do anyway.
