I use the thule 421 setup and a set of the 878 saddles. I don't like having a rack on the roof and one in the bed. The bed is mounted directly to the frame and the cab is mounted on rubber bumpers, to cut the sound and vibration. This can cause the boat to twist when going over rough rpoads, railroad tracks, and the like. On my old S-10 I had built wooden racks, which lasted well for 6 years. I installed a 4 foot Thule bar at the top of these and used the same 878 saddles.
