I sealed the underside of the lauan deck on my first kayak with just a couple coats of epoxy. There was a one inch long delaminatinon on the first ply near the front of the cockpit that let water in to the plywood all the way to the top of the deck under the epoxy/glass and formed a long 2 inch black stripe a couple feet long. I sat a heating pad on it for about a week and all but a hint of the black stripe went away. Then I sealed the crack with epoxy and it has been fine since.
