"Flush" SW Deck?????

Posted by John Beck on May 7, 2007

OK, I built the hatch exactly as layed out in the plans with th 4 mm hatch spacer, sill and rim and the hatch sets in perfectly flush as the underside of the hatch rests on the rim. So how can a strip of 10mm thick foam sandwiched between the hatch and rim be expected to crush to zero thickness? I press with all the pressure I dare and the bottom of the hatch won't even settle down to the top of the deck. HELP!

I should gave gone with my instincts to skip the rim and put the gasket on the sill, like the manual shows on page 47. It shouldn't take much to grind off the rim, but I thought I was done making saw dust, ugh.

In case anyone is interested; the dimensions of the sill protruded about 3/4" in from the front and back and 1/2" on the sides. Adding the rim flush along the inboard edge the sill results in a trough about 1/2" wide for and aft and 1/4" to 5/16" along the edges.
