Mill Creek Rub Rails

My deck is on my Mill Creek 16.5. I think I'd like to install the rub rails flush with the top as an extension of the deck and not below a round-over as suggested in the manual. I would then glass right over including the rub rail.

Any pros or cons to of one method over the other?
