It's worn down to the thickness of a toothpick.
When I first installed it, I was a little too anal about tolerances and made it so tight that it moved freely - as long as one grain of sand didn't get in there. This made it really sticky to operate. I'd often wind up clubbing it down with my paddle or something - not good.
On the other kayak, however, I gave the skeg a much baggier fit and it works great.
