I have never tried heating the cured epoxy for removal, but it sounds like it could work...
The System Three Epoxy Book states that a heat gun can be used to soften 'partially cured' epoxy for easier removal by scraping.
This is what the West System User Manual says about removing cured epoxy: "Use a heat gun to soften the epoxy (200�F). Heat a small area and use a paint or cabinet scraper to remove the bulk of the coating. Sand the surface to remove the remaining material. Provide ventilation when heating epoxy."
