Garland, I think you're in the right of it. If you grind it too fine you'll have polystyrene powder and not the "foam" that we are looking for. I wish I could send everyone a piece of the excess material that I sliced off the top of the pour. It has a tremendous strenght to weight ratio. Whether it is a source of leaks or not, I can't answer yet, but how big a risk is there for a boat that will spend 99% of its time high and dry under cover? How many wooden kayaks suffer from water penetration compared to the number that sit unused because they are too heavy to be bothered with? Some risks are worth taking.
