Clear packing tape

Just installed the deck on my MC 16.5 (first build)and after removing the clear packing tape, I find that the tape leaves a gummy residue. Did I use the wrong tape ? What tape works best ?

I'd rather ensure no epoxy drips than have to clean up this mess. What would clean it up the best ? I seem to be out of denatured alcohol, my first choice. I was scared to douse it w/ acetone,so tonight my best results were with orange GoJo and a Scotch pad.
