Your pin holes are a result of using lacquer thinner. It's way too strong for use with paint and varnish, unless you want to remove it. My method is to wet sand between coats and wash the boat down with water only. I give it plenty of time to dry and wipe it with a microfiber "tack" rag right before applying a coat. Remember the only coat that has to be "perfect", is the last one.-Joey
