I seem to recall that the rounding off of edges is in a CLC shop tip.

Many of use have a dirty little secret: We build because we enjoy the journey, as much as we also enjoy the end product. So it's not suprising if some of us get a bit creative with methods, it's part of the fun.

The 'book' method for the Chesapeake kits meets the admirable goal of keeping the hours down while (I gather) minimizing the number of support calls from puzzled builders. There are other ways to buld a S&G kayak. Most of them take longer or add difficulty. The end result looks about the same from 20 feet.
