What I am trying to get across is it isn't a rock solid mount. If you grab hold of the boat and shake it, there is very little to no movement of the vehicle, all the movement is in the cradles and rack. I suppose, given the straps over the boat and bow and stern lines pulling the whole works downward toward the roof, it will not be a problem. Having never hauled boats in this configuration b/4, maybe it's gonna be ok. I just don't want to have to risk the boat flying off the rack and hurting someone. Worse yet, ruining my boat. JK-safety is of first concern. As for the step stool, yes, I have tried, it's just a bit precarious, is all. I am gonna try the roller idea so I can load from the rear.
