Cockpit on 18' sea kayak

I have been building an 18� stitch and glue sea kayak from plans found in a 93 edition of wooden boat magazine. I am unable to decipher the dimensions of the cockpit and am looking for help. Are there any suggestions of where to look or how to go about making the cockpit? Thanks so much Scott
