Those cracks would have been the result of runaway heat up, which should be avoided. If your epoxy does not have slow hardner, it might be worth getting a small pack of some that does.

Half-joking suggestion: How about standing the yak on end in a bucket of water to keep it cool? It's watertight, right?

Here's yet another 'end method' from the Arctic Hawk manual: Build up the epoxy in the ends by successive fillets until it's just right. That way, you're using properly filled epoxy that's strong, but not too much of it. Time consuming finesse perhaps, but the AH is kinda like that.
