Coaming Overhang

Hey, everyone...I just got done gluing the coaming on over the coaming spacers. However, the overlap looks excessive -- the coaming overlaps the spacers by almost a full inch (7/8") which seems like it is too much, considering all you are using it for is to hold the spray skirt on.

Is that much overlap OK, or should I trim it down to maybe 1/2"??
