I glued on one layer of spacers at a time. It reduced clamping force, and I was able to take out the brad after each layer so there was no metal left in the structure

The shinto rasp does an amazingly clean and easy job of shaping the keyhole.

Finally, before you attach the coaming, put your head down by the deck on one side of the cockpit and gently blow across the opening. If you get the angle just right, the boat will respond with a very deep quiet bass note. You won't be able to do it after the coaming is attached.
