Thanks for the responses. I was aware of the lack of UV properties of the satin finish varnish (I bought it originally to use inside the cockpit).

The bigger question is more one of aesthetics; although I have one answer, and I think that I am probably going to go with an overall satin, or at least not a completely glossy finish, I would still like to get feedback from anyone else who has gone with this sort of finish -- were you happy with it? How'd it look? PICTURES!
