I think I'll run some tests s myself as I can't believe the color can't be opaque. I expect to have several coast of epoxy to fill the weave anyway. I own a fiberglass kayak (Local Home Made - not by me) and its not translucent at all it is opaque powder blue with the color all the way through not just the gel coat.

As far as the UV protection goes I'm using West Systems 207 Special with UV protection and plan on clear varnish as well I am considering the pigment see link that West System has as I like how my fiberglass kayak looks
