Re: Ches 18 hip braces

So skip it. The hip braces, or cheek plates, can be added at any old time... and depending on how you outfit the cockpit and what you aim to do with your boat, may be omitted altogether.

The cheek plates (what I call 'em) are there for two purposes: first, as anchors for suspended back rest rigging, and secondly, as something to attach hip padding for rolling. If you don't intend to do a lot of rolling, and have other means of providing a backrest, then they're not needed. And again, they can be added any time you want 'em later.

Your installation ideas sound correct, except...

Glue foam to the boat with contact cement. And don't go crazy, a little bit will do the job, and make life much easier if you want to change things later.

The photo shows unpadded cheek plates that support a suspended back rest.

Cheers, Kurt
