beginner builder

Hi there. I've been considering building my own boat for years and this winter I'm going to start. I need help deciding which kit, though. I'm an avid canoeist now, though I am also a sailor. I would like to eventually build the Skerry, but I wonder if there is another boat I should build first as "practice" in the lap-stitch method. I am also considering the Sassafras 16 or the Mill Creek 16. Which one of the three should I start with?
