You can buy 1/16 stainless steel wire at West Marine (westmarine.com) it cost $1.00 a Foot.

I have one boat that I removed the wire cable and installed tweaking line.It is made by Yale Cordage and called Pulse,The cord is 3/32 and has a core of low-stretch Spectra.

I installed this cord two years ago and have made only one small adjustment for stretch.
