Instead of kevlar and carbon, I would recommend stepping up to s-glass from the standard e-glass. S-glass is usually about 40% stronger than e-glass of the same weight. Also look into multiple layers of satin or tight-weave cloth, as it takes less resin to wet out. It is more difficult to get a perfect wetout though, so some care is needed in going this route. For lightweight high-strength applications this is where you will get the most bang for your buck.
