Re: paint or varnish firs

In the Shop Tips. Either click the "Tips for Boatbuilding" tab at the top of the page, then click "Painting Over the Deck" under "Finishing", or go there directly using the link in this message.

The Shop Tip describes the order in which to do things, how to mask the boat and masking materials to use. The tips titled "Marine Polyurethanes" and "The Varnished Kayak" give you more details about the actual painting & varnishing processes.

In general, if you're at the finishing stage, you can't go wrong by spending an hour reading all the finishing tips before getting started. They're very informative and interesting, and give you the benefit of experience from people who have finished hundreds of boats.

Good luck & have fun,
