Sounds like a plan if I understand correctly that the front & sides of the rim will be attached to spacers as usual but the aft side of the rim will be attached to the bulkhead with a fillet on the under side, no spacers. No reason for it not to work and it might even be an ounce or two lighter then the usual all-round spacer version.
