Dull Paint Finish?

I'm presently finishing my second kayak and will probably go with a graphite & epoxy bottom. However, for the hull above the waterline and the top, I'd like to use a good paint that will stand up to abuse, but have a dull (non-glossy) finish. Is there a special type or brand of paint I should use, or could I use a good glossy paint and dull the final finish with steel wool or Scot-Brite pads?
