Loosen a couple on each side at some point and see what happens. Once you get the feel for what the result of loosening and tightening particular stitches is, you'll soon develop a feel for which stitches are too tight, too loose or just right.
A good guideline is that the stitches need to be the tightest where you're trying to make the wood do something it doesn't want to do, such as bend very tightly or bend in 2 directions at once. Places where it's doing what it wants to hardly need any tightness at all.
