17LT Bulkhead

I'm in the process of building my first CLC kayak and so far it's been going well. The forum has been very helpful.

I have a question about the bulkheads though. I am unsure on how "exact" the bulkhead notches need to fit with the sheerclamp. My bulkhead has a gap that I think is too big to fillet, but I'm not sure what the best method is to adjust it (I've included a link with a photo). Should I trim the bulkhead until it fits better? Are there any other options?
