The coaming (particularly in roof-racking) does take a little abuse so glassing can't hurt. Keep in mind though, more glass and epoxy equals more weight.

If I was going to add the glass, I would roll it from the underside of the deck to the underside of the coaming. It's ugly under there anyway. At least, it is on my CH16.
