Yes, penetrol will help your varnish flow. It works very well in warmer temps where varnish would not level itself as much. It does not change the viscosity though. I still thin my varnish with the appropriate thinner. My mixture is 2oz penetrol and approx 10% thinner to a quart of varnish. Works so well, I've had people want to argue about if the boat was sprayed or rolled and tipped. Still waiting to get some experience with strip construction. My wife is warming up to the idea of another boat, but it will have to be hers.
