the most important thing to remember is to always store the kayak with the hatches off after paddling,,and take out any dry/float bags. Nearly every wood kayak that gets left in the sun with a little water in the compartments will show the hull/deck to be darker on the compartment side than the cockpit side. A friends year old Ch17 made in a CLC shop class developed darker ends on the hull because it was stored with closed hatches.
